Post COVID 19 How The Oravital Philosophy Can Control Pathogenic Aerosols And Oral Infections

Webinar Presenter: Dr Jim Hyland DDS BSc
Date: Tuesday, April 28 at 8pm

ImageWebinar Description: Post COVID 19 dental practices will have to offer treatments that can control pathogenic aerosols, gum disease and reduce risks of exposure for the team and all patients as they receive elective care.

Dr Jim Hyland will discuss why brush your teeth, floss your teeth and have your teeth cleaned does not predictably work to stop bleeding, the progression of periodontal disease, halitosis and peri-implantitis but can contribute to its progression! In medicine infections/allergies are controlled if you remove the pathogen/allergen.

Our traditional dental methods are not working predictably. He will discuss the OraVital philosophy of care where our primary preventive therapies must change to pathogen/biofilm control at home and in the office. Adding DNA testing and rinses are additional options to your usual treatment options. He will educate us on antibiotic/antifungal rinses as a treatment option if required vs our traditional systemic delivery method. Dr Hyland will use the AAP classifications to guide you on implementing the OraVital biofilm control philosophy of care.

Course Objectives:

  • why post COVID 19, patients will expect us to reduce pathogenic aerosols produced from their mouths and other patients. They have been educated for months on the need for this, testing for bacteria and their responsibility to control infection and it’s spread.
  • verbal skills to engage patients in their daily biofilm control
  • alternative sulcular and interproximal biofilm control techniques your patients will embrace and adopt
  • how to introduce and implement biofilm testing to measure the risk pathogens pose to your patients
  • why using antibiotic rinses and creams complement all current techniques to control the pathogens
  • 4 indices used before/after treatment to assess if your patient is healthy or has active disease
